Deciding whether or not to go with a first look on your wedding day can be a difficult decision for some. We have come up with some helpful advice when deciding which route to go with:
- If you are going with a wedding in the late fall, winter or early spring, as we all know due to Daylight’s Saving, the sun sets earlier than other parts of the year. If your ceremony is in the evening, then we typically suggest doing a first look beforehand so you can get pictures with your soon-to-be spouse in before there is no light left to capture with. Of course, if you are totally against seeing them before “I Do” then we would advise moving up your ceremony or getting all necessary pictures (like bridal/groom party) out of the way before the ceremony so you just need to do formal portraits together afterwards.
- If you are a traditionalist and have always imagined waiting to see each other until you are husband and wife, then we recommend going with the “down the aisle” approach.
We have many couples who go back and forth between these two approaches but it really comes down to how you and your fiance want to see each other for the first time on your wedding day. Make sure to chat with your planner and photographer about this situation as well as they will be able to lead you in the right direction.
If you love the drama of that significant other turning around and seeing you for the first time as a bride, why not consider having a “father-daughter” first look or one with your bridal party! They make for equally adorable pictures and will be cherished for years to come. Save your soon-to-be husband’s first look of you for your walk down the aisle.
